Man, 70, died as result of injuries from Gore Highway crash

A man has died from injuries he sustained after crashing into a gully on the side of the Gore Highway at Captains Mountain on Christmas Day.

A 70-YEAR-OLD Bundaberg man has died from injuries sustained in a single vehicle crash near Captains Mountain on Christmas Day.

About 7am, a Hyundai hatchback travelling south on the Gore Highway veered off the road before striking a culvert, causing the vehicle to roll.

Firefighters and paramedics freed the man from the wreck and treated him by the roadside, while waiting for the Toowoomba-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter to arrive.

Its crew transported the man to the Toowoomba Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Sadly, his condition deteriorated over the following weeks and he died on January 9.

The Toowoomba Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
