PARAMEDICS treated a motorist after he crashed his car into a building at a popular Toowoomba shopping centre.

The man was briefly trapped after he crashed into Rangeside Medical Centre but a Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said he appeared to be uninjured.

Senior QAS operation supervisor, Stephen Johns, said the incident could have been much worse.

"A driver in his 80s has entered the premises," he said.

"The vehicle has, under acceleration, gone through the door of the doctor surgery.

"We are extremely lucky that the only occupants in the building were the staff of the doctor surgery,

"On a normal day we could have seen the number of patients in there."

The man lodged his car deep within the surgery, complicating his rescue.

"He was still in the vehicle when we arrived," Mr Johns said.

"It took a little bit for the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services crew to get the patient out.

"When they did and assessment by paramedics showed there were no injuries, but he was transported to the Toowoomba Hospital to be checked over

"The building has received extensive damage, but everybody has been able to walk away unscathed."

Five people were inside the building at the time.

The incident occurred at the Range Shopping Centre, about 3.45pm Tuesday.
