Lockyer Valley Mayor asks residents to donate to GIVIT for flood-impacted homes

The Lockyer Valley mayor has asked residents to donate much-needed supplies to a highly-regarded charity, after organisations overwhelmed with generosity. Details here.

Lockyer Valley and Toowoomba district residents are being asked to donate items through GIVIT to assist those impacted by recent severe weather events.

Lockyer Valley Regional Council Mayor Tanya Milligan has praised the camaraderie and unwavering generosity of our community.

“GIVIT matches requests for specific items with suitable donated goods and can also source new items where appropriate,” Cr Milligan said.

“Many of our local charities are overwhelmed with donated goods they do not need and can’t use, so by donating to GIVIT, you can give exactly what is needed to aid in recovery.”

Donations of money to GIVIT and other charities is always preferred as it gives the recipient the dignity of personal choice with the replacement items.

Lockyer Valley residents face the mammoth task of cleaning up after the weekend floods.

There are a range of other services currently lending a hand throughout the Lockyer Valley.

The Rural Fire Service continues to help hose out homes impacted by water. While this service is offered by the RFS, residents will need to make a request for support via Council’s Customer Contact Centre on 1300 005 872.

Some utility services, such as Urban Utilities are chipping in to support impacted residents by offering discounts. Residents are encouraged to contact their specific service providers directly and ask about the range of support options they may be able to use.

Residents experiencing issues with the timeliness of insurance claims are urged to contact the Insurance Council of Queensland for professional advice.

“I am so incredibly proud of our community – the tenacity and generosity shown by our residents over the past few weeks blows me away,” Cr Milligan said.

“Let’s stick together and get through this incredibly tough time. Check in with your family and friends and most importantly – be kind.

“You really don’t know what struggles people are facing, and kindness goes such a long way."
