Local produce and people key to Toowoomba’s newest butcher

The city’s newest butcher brings a fresh, modern, state-of-the-art shop to town which the owner describes as something “never before seen in Toowoomba or the Darling Downs.”

Bringing a new concept butcher store to Toowoomba has been a long-held dream of a couple who are strong advocates of the connection between paddock to plate.

Now that dream is becoming a reality for Luke and Michelle Jensen with the launch of the Meat Cellar at The Ridge Shoppingworld.

Meat Cellar brings a fresh, modern, state-of-the-art butcher which Mr Jensen describes as something “never before seen in Toowoomba or the Darling Downs.”

Women make the majority of food purchasing decisions in households, so the pair saw Meat Cellar as an opportunity to ask their customers “what women want” when they visit a butcher.

The result is a butchery designed for women, with a fresh, modern feel.

Mr Jensen who is also the head butcher said the connection between the farmer, butcher, family and community was the key to their new store.

“We’re proud to be a local, family-owned business and we have strong relationships with our local farmers,” he said.

“We source all our meat locally, and use the whole body, so we focus on being sustainable, as well as offering a three-day freshness guarantee on our produce.

“We look forward to welcoming customers with good old-fashioned service and helping them with their meat selections.

“We can provide advice on cooking times, and of course customers can order their Christmas hams, knowing their supporting local pork farmers on the Darling Downs.”

Mr and Mrs Jensen are also the owners of Westridge Meats and previously operated The Ridge Meats at The Ridge Shoppingworld.

The Ridge Meats closed down in October to make way for their new venture.

Meat Cellar will open within the next week.
