Groom by-election LNP candidate Garth Hamilton says he will “work with the community” to fix mobile black spots in the region.
It comes as the Federal Government, of which Mr Hamilton hopes to be a member of after the November 28 by-election, opened a new round of applications for its $380 million mobile black spot program.
“The LNP Government has a strong record, having funded six local mobile base stations in Groom,” Mr Hamilton said.
“Four of these have been delivered (at Haden, Doctors Creek, Mount Tyson and Meringandan), while another two (at Aubigny and Southbrook) will be delivered in 2022.”
Mr Hamilton said strong mobile coverage was “very important” for keeping communities like Groom connected.
“It’s essential for those who do a lot of driving, including our freight industry, and vital when it comes to keeping people safe in any kind of emergency,” he said.
“If elected, I’ll work with the community to identify further opportunities to improve
coverage.”
Mr Hamilton said round 5A of the black spot program would support new ways of delivering mobile services to locations that tended to be less economic for mobile network operators.
Applications for Round 5A opened on November 18 and will close on February 10.
