Kindy kids to snooze soundly thanks to $5000 grant

A local kindergarten has received $5000 as part of the New Acland Community Investment Fund to purchase new beds, the old ones had snoozed through 15 years of rest times.

Children at a local kindergarten will be able to snooze more soundly now thanks to a New Hope Group initiative.

Highfields and District C&K Kindergarten has received more than $5000 to purchase new children’s beds as part of the New Acland Community Investment Fund.

The New Acland Community Investment Fund assists not-for-profit community groups and organisations with grants to help them enhance the services they offer.

The kindergarten’s old beds had snoozed through 15 years of rest times and were overdue for replacement.

It was agreed that new children’s beds were paramount for health and safety.

Teacher and director Judy Cuskelly said the kindergarten was now able to continue instilling healthy resting habits for future generations.

“Adequate rest is important for children to learn and play effectively,” she said.

“The importance of rest to reset the body during the day forms part of our educational program.

“There is not an expectation that children will always sleep but resting their bodies while listening to music, meditation or quietly drawing offers children moments of stillness and reflection from a busy world.”

Administration officer Carla Burkitt said as a not-for-profit community kindergarten, fundraising and grant monies were relied upon to complete major projects and resource upgrades.

“Replacing the children’s beds was one of our centre’s wishlist items and we are so thankful to see the children benefiting from the upgrade,” she said.
