STUDENTS at Highfields State School have started a trend by sending letters and drawings to Toowoomba hospital workers as a way of saying thank you.

Last week Highfields State School teacher Fiona Galvin organised her Prep and Year 1 students to prepare some notes for the hospital staff.

“I thought it would be a really nice thing to do with the health workers here,” Ms Galvin said. “We had the Preps colouring a thankyou card and the Year 1s were able to design their own.

We got them to design a message with our help, with who they were thanking and what they‘d like to thank our hospital workers for.

“We had some really sweet messages like ‘thank you for saving our city’,”

Toowoomba Hospital Foundation CEO Alison Kennedy said the letters were “super cute”.

“We’ve created a lovely board where kids can send in little messages,” she said.

“I think it’s lovely for our staff to see the messages and brighten their day.”

Ms Kennedy encouraged parents to get more children to write letters and draw pictures for hospital staff. She said they had received over 50 letters so far.

“We’re encouraging kids, especially over Easter, to send in their messages in,” Ms Kennedy said.

“We want to remember also the wardies and the cleaners and the staff in the cafes and kitchens.

“There’s plenty more people on the frontline than just doctors and nurses.”

Letters can be sent to PO BOX 7646, Toowoomba South, dropped off to the THF office at contactless drop-off points, or emailed to admin@toowoombahopsitalfoundation.org.au.
