Irish Club Hotel to raise its flags as pub business resumes

THE Irish Club Hotel will raise its flags to full mast this Friday, as it welcomes the return of more patrons.
Under the new state government restrictions, announced on Sunday, pubs, clubs and bars are now allowed to serve drinks, alongside a snack, to 20 seated patrons.
On Friday at noon, this will increase to 20 seated patrons per each defined, separate indoor and outdoor area of the venue, depending on its size.
Other precautions also remain in place.
The Irish Club Hotel owner Cameron Mayes welcomed the news, having reopened the pub last Friday to cater for a 10 customer limit.
"It was amazing to see everyone, it was like old family," Mr Mayes said.
"Everyone came in and we just about hugged, but we couldn't, so we touched elbows.
"This week is a step forward from that, from Friday lunchtime we'll go nearly full swing again."
During the downtime, many of the pub's staff, kept on with JobKeeper, helped with renovations and touch ups.
"We're not fully open yet, there are still a lot of social distancing rules and disinfecting and we can't really have entertainment," Mr Mayes said.
"But on Friday we hope to have a hundred people in the venue, so you'll see the flags flying high - I might buy everyone a pint when they come in."
The Irish Club Hotel will reopen tomorrow for dinner, taking in 20 customers per sitting.
