Hundreds celebrated unity, respect, diversity and peace at a recent international food festival.
Professor Dr. Shahjahan Khan said the ninth International Food Festival and Mosque Open Day on Saturday was a success in bringing together cultures residing in the Garden City.
“It was a lovely day, lovely people … everything was excellent,” he said.
“This is the first time we have been able to organise the event without Covid restrictions.
“People had the opportunity to meet others, greet others, share food and have children have good time playing together.
“We distributed copies of the Quran to people who were interested.
“And we spoke of peace, harmony, unity and working and living together peacefully with respect and dignity.”
Dr Khan said guests were able to view the almost completed mosque, which had been damaged by fire in 2015.
“We had a few weeks of wet weather that delayed things,” he said.
“Our concreters started work but unfortunately got sick, so we’re looking for another concreter.
“We hope in the next couple of months it should be finished.”
Despite its delayed completing date, Dr Khan said visitors were impressed with its redevelopment.
“We kept the original middle part of the mosque, then we expanded in eastern and western side,” he said.
“It’s looking great … and in two to three months, it should be finished.”
