A TOOWOOMBA pharmacy is now providing patients with the ability to check whether they’re eligible for medicinal cannabis treatment without having to leave the city.
Scott Street Pharmacy is working with Cannabis Access Clinics, allowing patients to be assessed by a health professional over webcam.
Pharmacy partner Sonja Venzke said the service would cut out the need for people to see a doctor to find out if they qualified for the medicinal cannabis prescription.
She said the screening cost $25, and if eligible, patients could make an appointment with a specialist in Sydney or Brisbane and do a virtual consultation.
While the doctor’s fee is typically bulk-billed for eligible patients, there is also a one-off $250 compliance fee, in addition to the cost of the prescription.
“There are lots of people out there in the community who probably would benefit from medicinal cannabis. Some people who struggle with a lot of chronic conditions could potentially benefit,” she said.
“People may be interested but they don’t know where to go.
“This is a pathway to see if they qualify and it won’t cost them an arm and a leg.”
Ms Venzke said that if people had any questions, they could come and speak to the pharmacist.
She said the Scott Street Pharmacy had been dispensing medicinal cannabis since September and had been on board with Cannabis Access Clinics for about a month.
