How coronavirus has boosted Toowoomba’s image

THE Garden City has made the list of top tourist destinations in Queensland.

FLOWERS, food, friendly people, and continual growth and development - what more could you want in a city?

That's what Toowoomba is, and because of its many drawcards, the Garden City has been named one of the top holiday destinations in Queensland.

Coronavirus has put a lot on hold this year but for regional towns itching for visitors, tourism numbers are anticipated to soar over the summer holidays.

A report published by Budget Australia named Toowoomba as the perfect place for a family getaway in light of coronavirus restrictions barring residents from travelling interstate and overseas.

"To motivate travellers to explore their own backyard, Budget Australia has pulled together Queensland's top carefree escapes for every type of road tripper - from beach bums and wildlife enthusiasts, to history buffs and garden gurus," a Budget Australia spokeswoman said.

The list cited Toowoomba's perfect location and floral displays as justification for its position on the list.

"A floral paradise, Toowoomba is situated 90 minutes from Brisbane and surrounds the edge of the Great Dividing Range 700 metres above sea level, overlooking the Lockyer Valley," the announcement read.

"Toowoomba is known as Queensland's Garden City, perfect for picnics and relaxing in one of its 150 parks and gardens available."

Toowoomba sits in good company of other hot tourist spots, including Rainbow Beach, Maleny, Warwick and Agnes Water.
