Government leaders line up to congratulate Garth Hamilton on Groom win
Prime Minister Scott Morrison, as well as other government members, have congratulated Garth Hamilton on his Groom by-election win.

Federal Government members have quickly moved to congratulate Garth Hamilton on his win at Saturday’s Groom by-election.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison spoke to Mr Hamilton shortly before he gave his victory speech just after 8pm, and also took to Facebook to share his congratulations.
“Thanks to the people of Groom for supporting our LNP candidate Garth Hamilton so strongly today,” the Prime Minister wrote.
“As an engineer, I’m looking forward to having Garth’s practical problem solving experience on our team in parliament.
“We’ve got a lot to work to do.
“Congrats also to Louise and the family. See you in Canberra soon.”
Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack, who was the highest ranking member of the government to visit Toowoomba during the by-election took to Twitter to express his congratulations.
“Just spoke to Garth Hamilton and congratulated him on his win in the Groom by-election for the LNP,” Mr McCormack tweeted.
“He’ll make a great contribution in the future.”
Treasurer Josh Frydenberg said “the people of Groom (would) have in Garth Hamilton another hardworking (and) capable representative”.
“Congratulations to you Garth and your family and the dedicated members of your LNP - Liberal National Party team,” Mr Frydenberg wrote on Facebook.
Wright MP Scott Buchholz said he congratulated his “new colleague, friend, electorate neighbour and now Member for Groom”.
“It was a pleasure to support your campaign,” Mr Buchholz said.
“Well done on all of your hard work.”
Labor figures also congratulated candidate Chris Meibusch on his campaign.
“A huge thanks to Chris Meibusch, and all the volunteers and true Believers who helped out,” Labor Leader Anthony Albanese tweeted.
“You make our democracy happen.”
Queensland Senator Murray Watt tweeted a swing against the government was a positive result.
“Terrific effort from Chris Meibusch and team in the Groom by-election, securing a 2.8 per cent swing to (Labor) in the LNP’s second safest seat,” Mr Watt wrote.
“Well done all.”
