Gina Jeffreys talks new album and return to Toowoomba

COUNTRY music star Gina Jeffreys talks on how it feels to be visiting home and the stories behind her new album Beautiful Tangle.

FOR country music star Gina Jeffreys, there's nothing like coming home.

Ms Jeffreys is returning to Toowoomba next week as part of her Beautiful Tangle tour.

She said she was eager to get back on the stage of her favourite venue.

"The Empire Theatre to me, and many of my famous friends, is one of the most beautiful theatres in Australia, without a doubt," Ms Jeffreys said.

"It's special to me because (Toowoomba) is my home town.

"But everyone I talk to in the industry says it's their favourite too, something about it, it sounds really good on stage and it's a joy to play."

Ms Jeffreys moved from Toowoomba to the Central Coast 30 years ago, having attended Mt Lofty Toowoomba State High school.

"I love coming back, it feels good to be here and it really does still feel like home," she said.

"I had a really good childhood and wherever I go people always talk about Toowoomba and how beautiful it is."

Her tour follows a 12-year hiatus, where she spent time focusing on family.

She said the show, which will be held at the Empire Theatre on February 15, will touch on her old hits and new.

"We pick songs with stories - I tell a lot of stories," she said.

"We will play some of the songs from the '90s, the ones that were big hits back then and we will also showcase the new album, Beautiful Tangle."

She said her new album Beautiful Tangle was based on her stories from the past 12 years.

One of the album's songs, Milestones, touches on the loss of a baby.

"We lost a baby on my 39th birthday and there is a song on the album called Milestones, which is about, one of my best friends got pregnant at the same as I didn't and I got to see her baby meet all of his milestones, so it was pretty tough," she said.

"It was pretty tough and a hard song to write, but I'm really proud of it and since I've sung it a few times live so many women have come up to me and said, well, that happened to me - thank you for the words."

She will also perform her single Cash, which went to number one on the Australian airplay charts during its release last year.

"We tell stories - I want people walk away and feel like they know me," she said.

"I don't want them just to hear the songs, they can just listen to the album at home.

"I want them to hear the stories behind the songs and you know, get to know me and Rod as well.

"The show should be different to what people are expecting."

She will be joined by special guests Rod McCormack and Max Jackson on the night.
