TINSEL and motorbikes are not a usual combination, but they were yesterday as Toowoomba's annual motorcycle toy run kicked off at Picnic Point.
Scorching temperatures couldn't melt the Christmas spirit as more than 300 motorcycle riders gathered at the park, ready to set off on their fundraising ride. Each member carried with them a toy or gift, to be donated to the St Vincent de Paul Society.
"We are hoping to get as many toys and bits and pieces as we can for the charity, there are a lot of families doing it hard this year especially with the drought and the fires, it's been devastating," Downs Motorcycle Sporting Club vice president and run organiser JJ Rodgers said.
"We'd like to give a bit back to the community. Share the happiness, put a smile on a kid's face - that's probably the best gift you could give someone as a lot of kids aren't going to have much."
Mr Rodgers said they expected an increase in numbers on last year, which had fallen on a rainy day.
"Last year we had around 200 riders and our record is around 350 - I am hopeful we will break that this year," he said.
"It's looking really good. I only arrived around 10 minutes ago, and I was surprised at how many bikes were here.
"People are parking on the grass because we have run out of room."
At noon, the decorated bikes started their ride through town, finishing with a sausage sizzle at the Toowoomba Showgrounds at 1pm.
