THE Darling Downs Christian School formal was described as a bittersweet affair, as the small cohort of Year 12 school leavers bid farewell to their high school days.
The event was held at Gip's Restaurant last Thursday night and was filled with beautiful gowns, smart suits and plenty of vintage cars.
"It's been a challenging year as they are the last Year 12 cohort with the OP system," Darling Downs Christian School secondary co-ordinator Joshua Cooney said.
"They've been successful in their achievements and it was a great night to celebrate that.
"We told them they are all school leaders, whether or not they have the badge."
Mr Cooney said each of the 13 school leavers gave a speech during the night, thanking family, friends and teachers for helping them during their time at school.
Parents were invited to join in on the sit-down dinner, and watched on as the students made a dazzling entry in an array of cars.
"It was a joyous occasion, but also very emotional as they said goodbye," Mr Cooney said.
The students returned to school the following day for their graduation. The teachers cooked them breakfast before they took part in a chapel program and guard of honour ceremony.
"It was a fantastic morning and a great way to say farewell,' Mr Cooney said.
"They've been a great class, and we will miss them."
