ASHLEE Geoghegan gave more than 400 warm jackets to disadvantaged Toowoomba residents last year - now she's aiming help even more.
The Year 11 student is once again running her Free on a Tree initiative, which will launch from June 1.
Ashlee and her family are gathering donated winter jackets to hang from the trees of Gallery Park in the Toowoomba CBD, which will be available to people experiencing homelessness or unable to afford warm clothes.
"Our goal is to collect and distribute 500 jackets - last year it was around 400, so we thought it would be a good goal for this year," she said.
"I'm passionate about helping those in need, because especially during COVID times, it's reassuring that I've got a bed to sleep in.
"I'm very inspired to help those who aren't as fortunate, because they don't have a place to call home."
The Toowoomba Regional Council is supporting the cause this year, offering publicity and access to the park.
Cr Tim McMahon, who used to teach Ashlee at Highlands Christian College, said he was delighted Free on a Tree was returning.
"This is yet another example of the compassionate community we have here in the Toowoomba region and I would like to thank Ashlee and her family for leading the charge," he said.
