Fast food restaurant puts Westbrook ‘on the map’

McDonald’s franchisee Mark Ward is excited to be opening his eighth McDonald’s at the end of the month.

WESTBROOK is about to have its very own McDonald's, putting the small town "on the fast food map".

Franchisee Mark Ward opened his first McDonald's store in Toowoomba in 1999, and more than 20 year's later, Westbrook will become his eighth store.

Located next to the 7-Eleven service station on Main St, Mr Ward said he was very excited to finally be opening the store on June 26.

"Westbrook is a community that has been growing over the years and it's a real feather in the cap of Westbrook that McDonald's is now establishing itself in that area," Mr Ward said.

"There will be lots of opportunities for employment; it's convenient.

"It represents some independence and autonomy for that region as well, that they're not just relying on Toowoomba for the things they've previously always done."

Mr Ward said he had received great feedback from the community.

"In all the stores we've opened in the last 20 years, this one I get the best feel from from the point of view of the support from the community," he said.

"It's the way we've been receiving feedback from people about how they've been looking forward to its arrival.

"They feel like they're on the map because they have a McDonald's of their own."

The conversation about opening a McDonald's in Westbrook started four years ago.

"Good planning and careful consideration means that when we open (the stores) it's the right decision.," Mr Ward said.

"There are great plans out in that area from the point of view of expansion.

"That gives us something to look forward to in the future as a store that will work with the community and the community will grow as one.''
