Early hints of Spring as Toowoomba warms up

Temperatures are set to be above average this week, with significant rainfall predicted as well. Here’s when you’ll see those falls.

Significant rain is coming to the region on Friday.

TOOWOOMBA residents will this week get an early hint of Spring, with maximum temperatures to remain above average for most of the week.

Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist Kimba Wong said there would gradual warming trend in the maximum temperatures.

"The average is 19 degrees (in Toowoomba) for August for the maximum, and it'll be warming up to 21 degrees for Wednesday and Thursday, so a little bit above average," Ms Wong said.

"The minimums will be reasonably standard, around 6 to 8 degrees, which is pretty typical."

Ms Wong said an upper trough would bring widespread areas of rain and possible storms to the region on Friday.

"It's unseasonal rain, particularly for August," she said.

"It's a little towards the end of the week, so things could change, but there is reasonable model consistency."

Ms Wong said Toowoomba was predicted to receive about 15 to 25mm of rain, but isolated falls and storms could bring 30 to 40mm of rainfall.

 

"That rain bearing system will move off the east coast on Saturday morning … (and we'll see) a return to more typical wintry conditions for the end of the coming weekend," Ms Wong said.
