For 45 years the annual Toowoomba Motorcycle Toy Run has enabled the motorcycling public to give back to the community.
This year was no different as hundreds of riders dressed themselves and their motorbikes in tinsel, elves and other Christmas-themed costumes for the annual ride with a mission to donate toys on Sunday.
Fellow Harley Davidson riders Zac and Hiedi Wells attended the toy run in support of the lifesaving organisations benefited by the ride, after Mr Wells was involved in a horrific workplace accident last year.
The Toowoomba man was working on a section of the Warrego Highway in Roma when he was partially crushed by a reversing road roller on December 11, 2021.
The accident, now under investigation, left Mr Wells in an induced coma and with significant injuries, including 20 fractures and several deep burns.
“LifeFlight’s a charity that is very close to our hearts,” Mrs Wells said.
“They basically saved Zac’s life.”
Riders made a beeline for Toowoomba’s Picnic Point from Goombungee, Oakey, Gatton and Nobby before the full contingent left Picnic Point at noon bound for host Downs Motorcycle Sporting Club’s Toowoomba Showgrounds clubhouse.
The 2022 ride benefited local charities The Toowoomba Hospital Children’s Appeal, Lions International – Toowoomba West and St Vincent de Paul Society.
