TOOWOOMBA leaders reiterated their stay at home message today, as the Easter holiday begins.

TRC Mayor COVID-19 update

TOOWOOMBA leaders have reiterated their stay at home message today, as the Easter holiday begins.

"These are unprecedented times and we are in uncharted waters, no one can tell you where we are going," Toowoomba Mayor Paul Antonio said.

"This is an Easter you will never forget, you have to stay at home - we must not allow this virus to spread a fraction more than it already has.

"In saying that Toowoomba has certainly stood up, we've done well."

Superintendent Mark Kelly congratulated the community on keeping with safety precautions and asked they continued to comply.

"While we have seen the numbers of (coronavirus) cases fall, locally and in Queensland, we must remember people have lost their lives - we have lost two from our local community," Superintendent Kelly said.

"This is Easter weekend, spend it with your family and, if you are going to have visitors, it's only two people.

"We need people to comply with the directives."

He said while most of the focus would be on monitoring the borders, police would also be operating on main roads and in town.

"What we are doing is talking to people, intercepting them and asking them what they are doing and where they are going," he said.

"We've issued warnings to people but we haven't fined anyone locally.

"Our police will be out there (this weekend) and they will be issuing notices to people not complying with the rules."

Cr Antonio said residents shouldn't be concerned about going to the doctors if they had to go.

"Anyone who needs to visit the emergency department at the Toowoomba Hospital - that's OK, regardless of what your complaint is," Cr Antonio said.

"Don't not go to the hospital if you need medical attention.

"Also, coming into Easter, there is a need for blood, so those who can give blood please make sure you do give blood."
