The Queensland Government is calling on all aged care and disability support workers to register for Covid vaccine today to get their Pfizer jab at the weekend.

Darling Downs Health staff will run a “super clinic” at Baillie Henderson Hospital on Saturday and Sunday where they hope to vaccinate 1100 people.

“We won’t turn anyone away,” Health Operations Emergency Centre manager Annette Scott said.

The centre received more doses of the Pfizer vaccine than initially expected and if that extra supply continued it would hold more clinics over the coming weekends.

This first super clinic is part of a statewide drive to vaccinate 15,000 Queenslanders by Monday.

Annette Scott, from the Darling Downs Health Emergency Operations Centre, said the Baillie Henderson Vaccination Clinic would be open from 7am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday.

The State Government is pushing for all aged care and disability support workers to get the Pfizer jab.

It aims to have both cohorts fully inoculated within three weeks.

Ms Scott said the Baillie Henderson Hospital clinic would be open to all, but strongly encouraged residents to book an appointment first.

“We will take walk-ins, but it is much more manageable for us if people ring up and register,” she said

“We will certainly prioritise the people who have registered for a vaccine.”

The clinicians will also prioritise older people and those aged 40-49.

“We have already started to get bookings and I am confident we will be booked out,” Mr Scott said.

The booking hotline has been swamped with calls since Health Minister Yvette D’Ath announced the vaccine rollout early Thursday.

“If you find yourself in a long line, I would encourage you to call back after hours,” Ms Scott said.
