More than 120 Darling Downs Health staff have been isolating with Covid-19 every day for the past week, as the virus continues to impact the hospital sector across Toowoomba and surrounding areas.
On July 3, 138 staff were in isolation with Covid-19, and the most staff that have been isolating at one time was 148 on July 1.
Queensland Health has also maintained that vaccine mandates are a critical part of keeping the community around our hospitals and health facilities safe.
As of July 1, there are 2094 Queensland Health staff who are not compliant with the vaccination directive.
Of these, more than 1400 employees are accessing leave and do not need to become compliant until they are due to return from leave.
Eighty per cent of these employees are frontline clinical positions.
The majority of remaining staff members are casual employees who will not be rostered to work until vaccinated.
Included in that group are employees who are working from an alternative work location where vaccination is not required.
A Queensland Health spokesman said the virus continues to impact health and hospital staff in a number of ways.
“Covid-19 continues to pose a risk to the Queensland community and disproportionately affects healthcare workers and health support staff,” they said.
“The vaccine mandate for healthcare workers is in place to ensure health services can continue operating in as safe a manner as possible.
“It is a measured approach, balancing the safety of staff, patients, visitors and the wider community.”
Queensland Health maintains that during what has been a chaotic flu season on top the pandemic, staff in the Darling Downs Health district as well as across the state are being cared for during this time.
The Darling Downs recorded 75 new cases of Covid-19 in the last day.
58 people have died from the virus.
