Want to avoid the winter lurgy?

We’re only a few days out from the start of winter and already temperatures are plummeting.

Toowoomba residents shivered through apparent temperatures below zero this morning.

According to the Bureau of Meteorology’s Toowoomba weather station at 7am the temperature dropped to a low of 2.9 degrees with an apparent temperature of -0.6 degrees.

The Wellcamp weather station had an even chillier recording of -1.8 degrees with an apparent temperature of -5.3 degrees.

The cold snap is being caused by a high moving across the Great Australian Bight which is extending a strengthening ridge as well as a cool, dry airmass across the region.

The high will remain slow moving over the next few days which means it’s best to stay rugged up.

The weekend is set to be mostly sunny with Saturday ranging from 5 to 16 degrees and Sunday from 6 to 17 degrees.

A similar forecast is predicted for the rest of the working week with temperatures dropping into the single digits as well as staying below 20 degrees each day.
