‘It feels like 4 degrees’: How long cold weather will remain

A cool change has hit Toowoomba with temperatures dropping below average.

TOOWOOMBA residents have been feeling the chill this morning, with temperatures dropping down to 7.1 degrees at 6:41am.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Kimba Wong said it would have felt a few degrees colder because of the windchill factor.

"It's 11 degrees now but feels like about 4 degrees," Ms Wong said.

"It's probably going to be a little bit colder over the weekend remaining in the low single digits.

"If the wind drops out the cold air can settle and be a lot colder.

"We're forecasting similar or a little bit cooler for tomorrow."

Roma recorded the coldest temperatures in the state this morning, getting down to 3.9 degrees.

Charleville reached 4.1 degrees, Applethorpe reached 5 degrees, Warwick was 7.5 degrees and Dalby reached 8.7 degrees.

"For Toowoomba the average minimum for May is about 10 degrees and the average maximum is about 20 degrees, so it's a couple of degrees below average," Ms Wong said.

"The average for Charleville and Roma is about 8 or 9 degrees and 24 degrees during the day."

While restrictions on picnics and other outdoor activities are being lifted this weekend, Ms Wong said it might not be the best weather for being outside.

"It might be a little bit chilly during the day," she said.

"It will be sunny weather but will be windy and quite cool.

"A maximum of about 18 degrees."

There were very strong wind gusts in Toowoomba last night, reaching up to 61kmph.

Ms Wong said the wind would drop off a bit, but it would remain breezy for the next few days.
