City to be transformed into live music venue with more than 30 buskers

Musicians are getting ready to take to the streets again for Toowoomba’s Busking Festival this Saturday. With $2000 in prize money up for grabs there’s plenty of reason to get down and see some talented performers busk up a storm!

TOOTING HIS OWN HORN: Josh Howman will be one of many talented Toowoomba musicians performing this weekend as part of Toowoomba's Busking Festival. Josh said growing up in Toowoomba, music has been an inherent part of his life and he was eager to join the school choir and bands as soon as he could. Trumpet is his favourite instrument and this young muso is also currently learning the piano. There’ll be swingin’ and swayin’ and trumpets playing this weekend as the annual Toowoomba’s Busking Festival gets under way.

After being forced to become an online event last year due to COVID restrictions, organisers, musicians and audience members are looking forward to filling up the city’s colourful streets and lanes with plenty of live music once more.

Young trumpeter Josh Howman will be among more than 30 musicians, singers and songwriters flocking to the CBD to perform at various locations on Ruthven and Margaret Streets from 10am to 4pm, with the busking finals held from 6-7.30pm at Walton Stores.

For buskers it’s not only a chance to showcase their talents, but it could also be a chance to make some serious cash with first prize earning the musician $1000, second place taking home $300 and third place receiving $200.

There’s also a people’s choice award given to the busker who receives the most votes throughout the day taking home an impressive $500 cash.
