Police patrol public spaces as COVID-19 restrictions return

Queensland Police Service superintendent Mark Kelly has urged residents to comply with new coronavirus restrictions in the region as routine checks continue.

Comply and keep safe

Queensland Police Service superintendent Mark Kelly has urged residents to comply with new coronavirus restrictions in the region as routine checks continue.

Toowoomba and the Darling Downs were added to the Queensland Health list of COVID-19 restricted areas at the weekend, which limits gatherings at home and in public spaces to 10 people.

"Police will be out and about in those public spaces, so people need to comply," Superintendent Kelly said.

"If we are called to disturbances or parties, and there are more than 10 people there, then people will be issued fines.

"We know from down south that a lot of the transmission occurred between family and friends."

Superintendent Kelly said residents had done well when restrictions were first introduced earlier this year.

"Businesses can still have more than 10 people as long as they have a COVID safe plan, that is different from the previous circumstances," he said.

"As the chief health officer has said, if people are feeling unwell, even if it's slight, a cold or a fever - get tested.

"Let's make sure this virus doesn't spread."
