CHRISTMAS is almost upon us and there is no better way to kickstart the festive season than by taking part in one of the many activities around the city.
Toowoomba council tourism and events portfolio leader Cr Geoff McDonald said preparations were well in hand to spread some Christmas cheer around the region in the coming weeks.
"I can't believe it has come around so soon and it will all be happening in the CBD," Cr McDonald said.
"We've had terrible drought and the bush fires are happening, so coming together during this time to celebrate the great things that we have and the community spirit - Christmas is no better time."
Next week Toowoomba's CBD will be a focal point for the first activities.
Santa will make a quick stop in Toowoomba next Thursday to join a Christmas parade through town. You can catch him and his sleigh starting at 7pm outside City Hall, where he will be entertained by the Harlaxton RSL Brass Band and help Mayor Paul Antonio switch on the building's light show.
The Santa parade will then head north along Ruthven St and turn into Margaret St before arriving at Grand Central's Community Space around 7.20pm for the lighting of the Christmas tree.
"Last year the crowd outside Grand Central (for the parade) was enormous, so I encourage you to get down there early," Cr McDonald said.
Before the procession there will also be activities and market stalls held outside Grand Central from 4pm.
Residents are also advised that a portion of Ruthven St, between Little and Herries Sts in the CBD, will be closed next Thursday from 5.45pm - 7.45pm for the Christmas Parade.
