Chip in for bushfire fundraiser in Toowoomba

TOOWOOMBA residents can now help the bushfire effort by enjoying an Australian favourite - hot chips.

TOOWOOMBA residents can now help the bushfire effort by enjoying an Australian favourite - hot chips.

From January 13 to 17, Crackerjack Chicken stores will donate $1 from every large hot chips sold to the NSW Rural Fire Brigade.

"Seeing what is happening down there, it has touched our hearts, and we wanted to help in some small way," Crackerjack Chicken owner Penny Dowling said.

"February isn't here yet so it's only going to get worse. I've seen the pictures of the orange skies and of the children wading through the water - it's hard to watch.

"We wanted to get the ball rolling here and give what we could."

Ms Dowling said she hoped other Toowoomba businesses would follow suit.

"It would be excellent if everyone could do what they can," she said.

"It doesn't have to be on a grand scale, and if you can't give by way of monetary donation, you can also donate blood.

"It's a time for supporting people and being kind. We should also be thinking to help the businesses affected."

Ms Dowling's daughter, 10-year-old Bridie, hoped others would get on-board with the fundraiser.

"The firefighters are risking their lives," Miss Dowling said.

"We need to help others through this. It's all about the little things we can do."
