Chance to ‘stress down’ for a good cause

Two Darling Downs organisations have teamed up to promote better mental health and help a good cause.

WHILE people are feeling extra pressures due to the impacts of coronavirus, Lifeline Darling Downs has launched Stress Down Day, to help relieve stress and raise money for its vital counselling services.

Lifeline Darling Downs CEO Derek Tuffield has encouraged workplaces to do something fun on July 24 for Stress Down Day and collect donations for a good cause.

"Things have been stressful. We've had droughts we've had bushfires, we've had COVID-19," Mr Tuffield said.

"Stress Down Day is about people taking time to enjoy life, to understand there's a lot of pressures going on, and to do things we like to do whether is be reading a book, getting dressed in some funky clothes, taking the dog for a nice extended walk.

"Wear your pyjamas to work, have a bit of a function and take some time out to check on each other and make sure you're doing well."

With a fundraising goal of $5000, Darling Downs and West Moreton PHN has teamed up with Lifeline Darling Downs to match every dollar donated up to $2500.

Darling Downs and West Moreton PHN CEO Merrilyn Strohfeldt said they were happy to donate to Stress Down Day.

"We want to make sure people in the region are looking after their mental health," Ms Strohfeldt said.

"This region has been particularly hard hit with bushfires and drought as well as COVID-19.

"It's important to take a bit of time out and have some fun with people who matter to you.

"We're promoting Stress Down Day as a chance to really sit down, relax, and enjoy the day."
