Chance to deadhead roses and tour city garden

The Queensland State Rose Garden is inviting Toowoomba residents to join members on a tour of the garden while they deadhead roses.

The Queensland State Rose Garden is inviting Toowoomba residents to join members on a tour of the garden while they deadhead roses.

This is the first tour back since November, and president Sandy Martin said she was looking forward to getting back in the garden and showing others the beauty of Newtown Park.

“We love showing others the park, and deadheading the roses is one way we can help council,” she said.

“Anyone can join us on the tour or bring some gloves and help us deadhead.”

Deadheading is the removal of finished blooms in order to encourage further blooms and improve the appearance and shape of the rose.

“The roses are back in flower, so we’re kicking off our first tour of the year this weekend,” she said.

“I host the tours, and we walk around the garden deadheading while I share information about different areas of the garden.

“It’s a lot of fun.”

This month’s tour is on tomorrow from 8am.

The meeting point is at the Rose Cottage which is off Holberton St.

There is no need to book, and attendees are asked to bring a hat, sunscreen and water bottle as well as some gloves if they would like to join in deadheading.
