Brisbane ratepayers hit with 4.93 per cent hike

A beloved home in Toowoomba’s east has hit the market, with its sale expected to double from its last purchase a decade ago.

NGU Real Estate sale consultant Matt Hawkins said the eye-catching home on Centenary Height’s Stenner Street was sure to get snatched by out-of-town buyers.

“Arabella is a well-known house. I guarantee our first open house, there’ll be a line out the door,” he said.

“Everyone knows this house, and though many may not want to buy, they will want to see this house.”

Arabella sold to its current owners about a decade ago for around $660,000.

Now, Mr Hawkins estimates it would sell for more than $1.3 million.

“People from Sydney, Gold Coast and Brisbane have worked out they don’t have to be in the office anymore and can work from home,” he said.

“They’re all moving to Toowoomba... but with Sydney money.

“There will be a lot of interest for this house... but it will most likely go to an out-of-town buyer.”

The five-bedroom, three bathroom and three-car spaces home hit the market with an offers to purchase, set to end on August 1.

“You will see a lot of homes go on the market now without a price,” he said.

“It will be offers to purchase or sometimes to auction, and it is purely based on someone coming from outside Toowoomba, and blowing everyone out of the water.

“They will have a really strong offer put forward.”

Mr Hawkins said the owners were counting on out-of-town buyers taking advantage of the region’s housing market and getting in while it was hot.

Designed similar to an old-fashioned mansion, the property is one of many across the region that have seen a jump in expected selling prices.

House sales have grown 114.3 per cent in Cawdor over the past 12 months, averaging $900,000.

Murphy’s Creek saw a 111.5 per cent jump in housing prices, averaging $825,000.

The property, on the corner of Stenner and Southerden Street, is expected to sell quickly.

An open house is scheduled for Wednesday, July 20 at 5pm.
