BOM warns of New Years downpour

BOM have warned of additional soakings across South East Queensland, but what can the Darling Downs expect?

Weather To Watch

A WET weather option for New Year’s Day would be sensible, according to the Bureau of Meteorology, as the region prepares for a further soaking.

A light afternoon and evening showers are possible in eastern parts of the Darling Downs on New Year’s Eve, however the chances of rain increase into the New Year.

“Saturday’s forecast is for isolated showers extending throughout with the chance of a thunderstorm in the southeast,” Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist Helen Reid said.

“Showers becoming scattered in the east. Sunday’s forecast is for isolated showers in the east.”

Toowoomba and Warwick have a 60 per cent chance of a downpour from 0 to 30mm, however Dalby sits at a 50 per cent chance of a 0 to 25mm rainfall.

“Thunderstorms are not expected to be severe or widespread over the Darling Downs in the coming week,” Ms Reid said.

“It’s important to remember that thunderstorms do form quickly, though.”

A flash flooding risk does increase with potential rain.

If it’s flooded, forget it.
