A 20-YEAR commitment could soon come to a close after a beloved couple announced plans to sell an Oakey business.

Ken and Sandra Pott purchased the Oakey Newsagency in May 2002, after the pair decided to step into a new venture.

“I worked for Queensland Health … and Ken has been a truck driver for a long time, so we looked at going into some sort of business … and come across this one,” Mrs Pott said.

“It’s been good for us and we’ve really enjoyed it but its time now to have a rest and have a bit of a look around and go from there.”

Mrs Pott said during their time, the couple has taken on 21 school-based traineeships from the region.

“Seeing them develop from being young shy kids to confident grown ups has been wonderful,” she said.

According to the couple, a highlight of the 20-year venture was the multiple invitations to magazine conferences, with one hosted by Anh Do.

“It was the most magnificent conference – he is such an inspiration. To hear him speak was wonderful,” Mrs Pott said.

The couple said the customers made the 20 years special.

“We love the customers and the interactions we have,” Mrs Pott said.

“It would be lovely to see (the store) go to a family, but whoever takes it on, we will be very happy for them.”
