Artist donates to Sunrise Way raffle after finishing program

RENOWNED Australian artist Mick Marris has thrown his support behind Sunrise Way's new online fundraising initiative, by donating his Sunflowers painting.
The drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre launched its Rebuild a Life fundraiser yesterday, a monthly online raffle to raise operating funds for the care of its residents.
Mr Marris, who recently finished a program at the centre, said the theme of his painting was resilience.
"It's something that is developed through the program to help you overcome challenges," Mr Marris said.
"(Sunrise Way) was a safe environment for me to work on my core issues, and once they were identified I could move on to addressing them.
"Because I got so much out of the program, it's quite easy to give back to it - it's good to help out in anyway I can."
Sunrise Way CEO Louise Sanderson said while the service was recognised as essential by the government, funding didn't cover the full cost of operation.
"We do need to undertake some fundraising initiatives to meet those costs," Ms Sanderson said.
"We are certainly hearing that, within the community, people are drinking more alcohol (during the pandemic), which is a concern for us.
"Here at Sunrise Way, we are still fully operational, taking intakes and providing service."
Some of the prizes on offer over the next 12 months will include pamper packs, dinners, art and Bunnings vouchers.
