THERE is still no construction date set for the ALDI in Highfields after the proposal was approved in December 2017.

Located at 71 Highfields Rd, opposite the shopping centre, an ALDI Australia spokesman said they were still committed to opening the store in Highfields.

“(We are) currently in the planning stages,” the spokesman said.

“We are working with local council to finalise a few planning items and therefore do not yet have a date for construction commencement.

“We are also yet to appoint a contractor.

“We will continue to update the community as our plans progress.”

Neither ALDI Australia or Toowoomba Regional Council could disclose what the holdup was on the development.

Toowoomba Regional Council Planning and Development general manager Stewart Somers said council officers were “currently in discussions over planning and engineering items associated with the proposed development.”

The supermarket chain already owns three stores in Toowoomba.
