11yo Danny Booth donates $3.5k and 40cm hair for RedKite and Hair for Heart

A 11yo Toowoomba boy has paid homage to a late friend, with a donation of almost $4k and more than 40cm length of hair to fight child cancer. Details here.

He may not have reached his $5k goal by the end of March, but an 11-year-old boy has made his community, school and family proud.

Glenvale State School student Danny Booth has grown his hair for multiple years in the hopes of raising funds for RedKite, and is donating his hair to be made into a wig.

Yesterday, Danny chopped the 40cm of plaited hair off and is set to donate the $3500 he raised in honour of his late friend Aaron Preston, who passed away from brain cancer in 2020.

“We’re super proud of him,” Danny’s mum Lisa Booth said.

“It’s something he has been working on for so long, and it is for such a good cause.

“He was always so responsible with his hair and taking good care of it … I could tell he was quite nervous to get it all off, but also excited.”

Mrs Booth said her son was modest and wanted to make sure nothing would go to waste.

“Even though he’s a little disappointed to not hit the $5k yet, its nice to know he's definitely helped a family with the $3000,” she said.

“The school was super supportive and cheered him on.

“We’re so proud of him and really thankful for everyone’s support.”
