Toowoomba tennis tournament serves up big name

Former WTA world number four Jelena Dokic headlines Toowoomba tennis tournament guest list.

THE 2018 Hutchinson Builders Toowoomba International will serve up one of the biggest names in Australian tennis next week.

Former WTA world number four Jelena Dokic will be special guest at the event, which runs from October 6-14.

Ms Dokic will attend a number of events during the finals weekend of the tournament, including a special luncheon.

"Each year we try to bring a personality to town for the tournament,” HBTI tournament co-ordinator Allen Smythe said.

"We're pleased to announce that Jelena (Dokic) will be our guest this year.

"We've been working with Tennis Australia and things worked out really well for us because we found our Jelena was available and happy to attend.”

Ms Dokic's first commitment well be the Friday, October 12 corporate team challenge, when she will meet players involved in the popular charity event.

The 2000 Wimbledon semi-finalist will also attend the Blush On The Court event on Sunday, October 14.

"Jelena will be the special guest at the lunch during the finals,” Mr Smythe said.

"I think it will be very interesting to hear speak and share some of her story.”

With a number of top players on board, Mr Smythe said the event was shaping up nicely.

"It is going to be another top event,” he said.

"Nearly all of the finalists from the past few years are returning and we have some other top players on board as well.”
