SCHOOL captain Bertie Mansfield believes the key to being a good leader is doing the right thing, being a great listener and understanding people.
The Toowoomba Anglican College and Preparatory School student was one of hundreds at the mayor and councillors' primary school leaders' morning tea which involved 54 schools in the region.
"A leadership role is a privilege and an honour, because not everyone gets the opportunity to be a leader," Bertie said.
His fellow captain Anne Lacey spoke about the importance of having role models in students' lives.
"Can I ask all of you here today to realise that every single one of us plays an influential role in shaping the people placed in our care," she said.
St Mary's College leaders Sam Gleeson and Denver Rashleigh said they wanted to be a good example.
"It is about representing the school and showing other kids the way to do the right thing," Sam said.
Students Mia Schilf and Ben Watts travelled from Quinalow Prep-10 State School.
"I am very proud and happy," Ben said.
"I was pretty excited and nervous to be elected," Mia added.
