Toowoomba man had more than leaves in his guttering

A 63-YEAR-OLD Toowoomba man with some history of offending was found to have plant matter in his guttering but it wasn't just leaves and sticks.

A 63-YEAR-OLD man with a history of drug offending has been handed another jail term after police found more cannabis stashed in the guttering of his Toowoomba home.

Slim Arthur Walker had served terms of imprisonment in 2015 for drug trafficking and was therefore known to police who arrived at his Tor St residence on July 23, Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard.

Police noticed two deformed sections of guttering, one above the front entrance and another above the garage, police prosecutor Sergeant Natalie Bugden told the court.

Closer inspection of the guttering above the front entrance found a plastic bag inside which were three clip seal bags each containing 30g of cannabis, she said.

From the guttering above the garage, police seized another bag inside which were 35 clip seal bags each containing 1.5g of cannabis, Sgt Bugden told the court.

Another 100 empty clip seal bags and a set of scales were found in the kitchen.

The total amount of cannabis found at Walker's house that day was 140g, she said.

Walker pleaded guilty to possessing and producing a dangerous drug and to possessing a drug related item.

Duty solicitor Brad Skuse, of David Burns Lawyers, told the court his client had suffered a heart attack in 2018 for which he was medicated but he found cannabis less effected his nature than the medication.

Magistrate Howard Osborne sentenced Walker to nine months in jail but suspended the term in full to hang over his head for two years.
