A BRIDGE sign in the Toowoomba region popular with pranksters and thieves has again been stolen, according to the council.
Cr Nancy Sommerfield reported last week that both signs for Bum Bum Creek Bridge along the New England Highway were missing again, in what has become a long-running gag by certain community members.
"I was in the northern area recently and it's a popular sign I know, but the Bum-Bum Creek bridge's two signs are gone again," she told the chamber.
"I think it's a bit of a novelty for people to take the Bum-Bum Creek signs."
The news caused more than a few giggles in the council chambers on Tuesday morning, with infrastructure services general manager Mike Brady acknowledging how regularly the sign was stolen.
"It's unfortunate - that sign disappears three or four times a year by people who want it as a souvenir," he said.
"We've done everything from welding bolts on to other things, and people still flog them."
The creek and bridge regularly makes lists of Australia's funniest or most immature place names, and the consistent thet of the sign has become part of local folklore.
In fact, when researching the history and location of the bridge, the sign is also missing on Google Maps.
The bridge itself was replaced in 2014 for $10 million.
