Territorians encouraged to sign condolence book for families of Captain Eleanor LeBeau, Major Tobin Lewis, Corporal Spencer

For 10 days Territorians will be given the opportunity to share their messages of love, grief and solidarity with the families of the slain US Marines.

The Territory’s messages of love, grief and solidarity will be shared with the United States following the horrific deaths of three American marines on the Tiwi Islands.

Captain Eleanor LeBeau, 29, Major Tobin Lewis, 37, and 21-year-old Corporal Spencer Collart were killed after an MV-22 Osprey crashed near Pickataramoor, on the first day of the 12-day Predators Run exercise on Sunday, August 27.

Chief Minister Natasha Fyles announced that for 10 days an official condolence book would be accessible to the public, starting Monday.

Three American Marines Captain Eleanor LeBeau, 29, Corporal Spencer Collart, 21, and Major Tobin Lewis, 37, have been remembered as 'heroes' following a fatal Osprey crash in the Northern Territory on Sunday August 27.

Ms Fyles said anyone could visit the Main Hall in Parliament House to sign the book with messages of support for the loved ones of the fallen marines.

She said after Wednesday, September 13, the book would be presented to the United States Government and its people on behalf of the Northern Territory community.

Ms Fyles said there was a strong and long-running connection between America and the Territory, with about 2500 Marines stationed as part combined training exercises with the Australian Defence Force.

“The relationship between the United States and the Northern Territory is historic, special and unbreakable,” she said.

“The Territory has warmly embraced the presence of Marine Rotational Force-Darwin over the past 11 years, and the loss of life and injury in this incident is keenly felt by both Australian and American communities.”
