Another decent snow event, showers and frosts are on the way for Tasmania this week after the state shivered through subzero mornings.

Liawenee was the coldest part of Tassie Wednesday morning, with the mercury dipping to minus 6.3 degrees.

Fingal was the second coldest, dropping to –6C. In the south, Grove recorded –3.6C.

There is plenty of snow still about across most of the higher altitudes including Cradle Mountain, Hartz Mountain, Mount Field, Ben Lomond and Mount Wellington/kunanyi.

Josh and Karmen Paterson travelled to Tasmania with their four children from Wagga Wagga in NSW to celebrate Josh’s birthday; their toddler seeing snow for the first time at Cradle Mountain.

Kasey, 10, Michaela, 8 and Kassidy, 4 had seen snow once before on the side of the road but for two-year-old Kobe it was his first experience.

“The kids were amazed to wake up and see everything white and loved having snowball fights with their grandmother, Nanny G they call her,” Mr Paterson said.

Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist Michael Conway said there was “a chance there’ll be quite a good snow event” at Ben Lomond this Friday with the combination of rain and frosty temps.

“From late (Thursday) into Friday we’ll get a bit of rain around the East Coast, about 20-40mm but just light showers for other parts of the state,” Mr Conway said.

“There is a chance on Ben Lomond plateau it will get some snow, at the moment it’s looking like an open question with temps around zero but there’s a chance there’ll be quite a good snow event.”

The meteorologist said Tasmania was in for more frosty mornings this week with light winds and cold nights.

Showers are forecast for Hobart Thursday until at least Tuesday, with daytime temperatures not expected to get above 14C.

It’s a similar forecast in Launceston, with a chilly start expected Thursday at 1C.
