Tasmania’s largest motoring organisation has struck a new deal to offer discount fuel to its 220,000 customers.
RACT has joined forces with Tasmanian fuel retailers Bennetts Petroleum and Bonney Energy to allow its members to claim a 6c discount on fuel.
Bennetts has 17 retail sites across Tasmania and Bonney has 13 service stations across the state, mostly in across the North and North-West as well as 17 unmanned sites.
The discount comes into effect immediately but will only be available from 24 sites – 10 in the South and 14 in the North. The discount will be rolled out across Bennetts’ and Bonney’s unmanned outlets in the coming months, RACT says.
RACT CEO Mark Mugnaioni said he was thrilled that the organisation would be joining forces with two other strong Tasmanian-grown brands.
“We have been part of the Tasmanian community for more than 100 years and are constantly looking for ways to strengthen our involvement,” he said.
Mr Mugnaioni praised the hard work of his team as well as those at Bennett’s Petroleum and Bonney Energy to ensure as smooth a transition as possible for RACT members.
”While there are still enhancements to be made to the program, we wanted to start rolling out the new member rewards as soon as possible,” he said.
“We will continue to work with our new partners to expand the number of sites available as well as add to the program to bring even more value to our members.”
The discount site will display large flags advertising the 6c a litre discount offer.
The deal comes weeks after RACT dropped its previous discount deal with United service stations after the fuel retailer was found guilty of underpaying workers.
The United deal ended on April 30 and the lack of a replacement drew criticism from members online.
The Fair Work Ombudsman secured penalties against the owners of United’s Sandy Bay and Kingston outlets KLM Foods Pty Ltd and Mr Loveleen Gupta, after four service station console operators were cheated of $20,000 pay in late 2021 and early 2022.
The owners were hit with $180,000 in fines.
The Fair Work Ombudsman found individual underpayments to the United Petroleum employees ranged from $2597 to $9574, with KLM Foods knowingly providing workers with false pay slips, and presenting fake time sheets to authorities. Mr Gupta, who was personally hit with a $44,078 penalty, was found to have been involved in all the contraventions.
Bennett’s Petroleum CEO Troy Bennett said the company had been part of the Tasmanian community for almost 50 years.
“We’re proud to be working with RACT to offer Tasmanians real, everyday savings at the bowser,” he said.
Bonney Energy CEO Greg Niven, said the company had been born in Tasmania in the 1950s.
“This partnership with RACT is another way we’re helping Tasmanians save – whether they’re on their daily commute, travelling between regions, or heading off on a Tasmanian holiday,” he said.
