Almost two years after a devastating fire tore through one of Tasmania’s most popular free campgrounds visitors are being welcomed back.
The Friendly Beaches campground at Isaacs Point will reopen on April 17, just in time for the Easter long-weekend.
A severe bushfire destroyed almost every asset in the free coast-side campground in September 2023, and the popular spot has been closed for almost two years while the Parks and Wildlife service worked to restore the area.
After extensive stabilisation and restoration work all infrastructure including two toilet blocks, the beach viewing platform, fencing and signage has now been replaced
Parks minister Nick Duigan thanked the public, commercial operators and staff for their patience while works were completed.
“Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife service have been working hard to ensure families can get back to this area as soon and as safely as possible,” he said.
He encouraged people to visit the “wonderful” campground, which sits among coastal scrub in the Freycinet National Park on the East Coast.
The free, first in best served campground is set to open on April 17, in time for the Easter long weekend.
Visitors will be able to enter the much loved beach from the northern end of the campground with restored beach access points.
The road leading into the site has also been rejuvenated “enabling easy access for two-wheel drive vehicles and other camping vehicles” Mr Duigan said.
