Nick McKim leads Greens Senate charge for Tasmania

The Greens are ready for an early federal election call after announcing their ticket for the Senate.

Senator Nick McKim, who was first elected to the Upper House in 2016, will be leading the charge as he seeks to be re-elected for another term.

He will be joined by environmental lawyer Vanessa Bleyer, veteran environmental campaigner Scott Jordan and social justice advocate Trenton Hoare.

The next federal election needs to be called on or before next September.

In a written statement, the Greens said the team reflected a commitment to strong, sustainable policies for all Tasmanians.

Ms Bleyer, who was also a Senate candidate in 2022, said she had dedicated her life to protecting Tasmania’s natural environment and was passionate about taking action on climate change and biodiversity.

“As a candidate for the Greens, I’m ready to take this fight to Canberra and ensure that Tasmania’s wilderness is protected for future generations,” she said.

Mr Jordan, who has previously run as a Greens candidate for Braddon, said he had been on the front line protecting the Tarkine for over 20 years.

Mx Hoare said issues facing young Tasmanians topped their agenda.

“I’m proud to stand with the Greens, a party that truly listens to young people and is committed to creating a fairer, more inclusive future for all,” Mx Hoare said.

Earlier this week, Senator McKim claimed his party could win additional Tasmanian Senate seats and the expense of Labor.
