A Brighton couple have partnered with 18 Tasmanian businesses to debut an adventure experience all the rage on the mainland – a mix between Cluedo, Huey's Kitchen and The Amazing Race.

A Tasmanian couple are just days away from hosting the state’s first ever ‘mystery picnic’ – an adventure concept that has taken the mainland by storm.

Old Beach husband-and-wife Naomi and Michael Gilmore earlier this year founded their second business together: Riddle Me Adventures.

Riddle Me Adventures will host its first batch of mystery picnics on December 17 after a successful trial with friends and family in late-November.

But, hang on – what’s a mystery picnic? It’s in the middle of the Venn diagram between Cluedo, The Amazing Race and Huey’s Kitchen.

For the uninitiated, participants are required to solve riddles and puzzles to unlock the next leg of the adventure, which, if completed successfully, eventually leads to a picnic basket crammed full of Tasmanian goodies in a jaw-droppingly beautiful, secluded location.

Each individual leg might feature a hole-in-the-wall cafe for coffee; it could be a bakery to receive a packet of biscotti to take to the picnic; or a fromagerie for some dairy goodness.

“We’ve got 18 businesses we’ve partnered with, a lot of them are little hidden gems, others are well-known. We just tried to pick the best of the best in each region to give people a taste of the region they’re at,” Ms Gilmore.

She said she and her husband knew they had to bring the concept to their home state after discovering it during a mainland holiday.

“We were in Queensland on holiday looking for something to do. We did a mystery picnic over there at Tamborine Mountain and thought, this is absolutely amazing, Tassie has the best food around, let’s actually bring it here,” Ms Gilmore said.

Four experiences are initially on offer: Burny Island, Huon Valley, Historic Richmond and New Norfolk.

However, pending the smooth operation of these, the duo plan on bring their mystery picnics to Cygnet, the East and West Coasts, and the state’s North and North-West.

They also hope to launch ‘Riddle Me Stays’, wherein the mystery picnic includes accommodation at the end.

True to form, participants will have no idea where they are staying.
