Jacqui Lambie abused and threatened after Steve Mav publicises her mobile number in a Facebook post

Senator Jacqui Lambie has called a rival’s act “the lowest of the low” after receiving a torrent of abuse when her mobile number was included in a social media post.

Jacqui Lambie fires up in the Senate: 'All about cash'

A DECISION by a political rival to leave Senator Jacqui Lambie’s personal mobile number on a Facebook post has prompted a torrent of abuse and threats and forced the Burnie-based Senator to change her number.

The post by One Nation candidate Steve Mav included a text between a voter and Senator Lambie that he claims showed she was telling voters one thing and the Senate chamber another.

Her mobile number remained on the snapshot of the text.

“Haha you f...en mole. You’re [sic] time is coming,” one abusive anonymous text she received said.

Senator Lambie said she felt the move had been deliberate and saw it as dirty and dangerous politics.

“This is the lowest of the low and I feel it was done deliberately. This was not a mistake,” she said from Canberra.

She called on Mr Mav to “man up” and be honest that the move was a deliberate one.

“There is no need for this crap. There is currently a heightened tempo in Australian politics with nooses being rolled out in protests. It is simply dangerous,” she said.

Mr Mav said the text message exchange he posted had been sent to him by the voter and he had posted it to highlight the Senator’s “hypocrisy” on the vaccine mandate debate.

“What she says one-on-one to voters and what she says while ‘grandstanding’ in the Senate are very different and I wanted to show that,” Mr Mav said.

“At the last Federal election she publicised her mobile number herself and invited people to contact her. It is easy to find.

“My number is on my Facebook page.”

Senator Lambie said people would need to “go digging” to find her personal number from three years ago when it was included in some political advertising.

Mr Mav also called on Senator Lambie to apologise for her “personal attack” on Senator Pauline Hanson in the Senate.

“I also challenge her to a debate on what it really means to be pro-choice – anywhere, anytime,” he said.

Senator Hanson’s private members bill to end vaccine mandates was voted down on Monday but was supported by five government MPs.

Senator Lambie said those who supported the bill were out of touch with most Australians.

Federal Lower House government MP George Christensen has also now threatened to withhold his vote.

During debate on the bill, Senator Lambie made an impassioned speech against ending the vaccine mandates, saying it was not discriminatory to have different rules for vaccinated and unvaccinated people.

“Here’s the thing: Being held accountable for your own actions isn’t called discrimination, it’s called – you wouldn’t believe – being a goddamn bloody adult,” she said.
