The Glenorchy City Council has launched an investigation after being hit by a cyber breach.
Mayor Sue Hickey said there was no evidence to suggest the incident involved the access of council or ratepayer information.
The council became aware of the breach of one of its IT services last Thursday, promptly triggering an ongoing investigation.
The system in question is provided by an external vendor.
“Council … isolated the relevant system to further prevent unauthorised activity attempts,” Ms Hickey said.
“We are continuing to work with our specialist IT contractors and the vendor as part of the ongoing investigation.
“Council takes the security of its IT systems and the data it holds extremely seriously and this investigation is taking place as a matter of priority.”
The mayor said an update on the situation would be provided once more information came to light.
