Tasmania’s hope of winning the 2024 My Kitchen Rules crown falls solely on Caz, who brings a paddock-to-plate approach to cooking with her musician son, Fergus.

The mother-son duo feature in the latest series of Channel 7’s popular reality cooking show and are set to make their debut as a new round of teams are introduced on Tuesday night.

Growing up in rural NSW, Caz has since made a home for herself at Bicheno on Tasmania’s East-Coast and is eager to showcase Tasmanian produce to the country.

“It never ceases to amaze me how sensational Tassie’s produce is,” she said.

“I am totally thrilled to be now able to call myself a Tasmanian. It’s an amazing statement to be able to make.

“In fact, I wish I had moved to Tassie years ago.”

Sharing her motivation for cooking, Caz believes cooking is a “stress release” and an opportunity to bring family and friends together.

“Growing up in a rural area, you have these big family dinners where you put big plates of food on the table, and everybody tucks in – that’s what food is to me, an opportunity to show people how much I care for them while spending time together,” she said.

“I never really intended to enter a cooking competition or spend months on the road with my 24-year-old son executing some great food, but it was a fantastic experience.

“I was pretty surprised about how well we worked as a team. We didn’t lose our minds. We just kept there for one another, supported one another, and just kept things in perspective.”

Caz said her philosophy was not to overcomplicate things in the kitchen, letting the ingredients “speak for themselves”.

“In Tasmania, you have all of these beautiful cheeses, honey, meats – you name it, it is all so sensational,” she said.

“And, of course, here in Bicheno, our access to lovely crayfish and seafood is phenomenal. And I have to say, the potato cakes at the Horny Cray in Swansea are, hands down, the best, the best potato cake I’ve tried.

“Sometimes it’s just the simple things and the deep-fried things in life that are the best.”

Caz said she dreams of applying her culinary skills and knowledge to open a casual food venue on the East Coast, focusing on local producers and featuring music played by Fergus.

“Being on the show has given me the confidence and the courage to really move forward with my dream here in Tasmania,” she said.
