Baby quadruplet capybaras cozy up to first time mum Pina Colada at Wing’s Wildlife Park

A northwest wildlife park is thrilled to introduce its new quadruplet capybaras.
The four baby giant rodents were born to 2-year-old Mum Pina Colada and 4-year-old Dad Greg on February 6 2025.
Head keeper at Wing’s Wildlife Park Lisa Burgess said everyone is so excited about the birth of the four pups who are staying in a newly-built enclosure with a maternity pen.
“Pina Colada, our first-time mum, has been exceptional and very caring with her four pups who are growing stronger by the day. Dad (Greg) is very proud,” she said.
The park hopes to be able to invite visitors for personal encounters with the babies within the next two weeks.
The birth brings the social herd of the world’s largest rodent, which is basically a giant guinea pig and is native to South America, to eight at the wildlife park.
“They are very, very chill, very happy animals and we have three of them here at the park plus our four babies,” Ms Burgess said.
She said visitors are amazed by the animals which have exploded in popularity in recent years.
She said the pups were allowed out exploring with Mum, but she took them away up the hill and didn’t return until night time so they are being kept in the enclosure for now.
Wing’s Wildlife Park at Gunns Plains has over 150 different species of animals, including the largest collection of Tasmanian wildlife in Australia.
